Though Alexa and Drew’s situation is a insta-love romance, they put a lot of effort into making their (somewhat) long-distance relationship work and getting to know each other on a different level. Drew uses that knowledge to reflect upon himself and to be more aware of what’s going on.

Alexa points these out to Drew to make him even more aware of thing that she’s had to deal with growing up as a woman of color. Though it’s a humorous and light-hearted novel Guillory also discusses some other serious topics that pop up in interracial relationships such as white privilege, growing up in ethnic backgrounds, racial bias from law enforcement.

The plot sounds like something straight out of a Rom-Com and I loved it. This book is long overdue as I’ve been trying to read it since its initial release, but it got pushed on the back-burner due to my ARCs/reading schedule.
